PUSH|PULL

Design Build Challenge | 2007

The Design Build Challenge 2007 (DBC07) was held in New Orleans, LA. Participants had 72 hours to identify a client, identify their need, design the project, fund the project and build the project. Project Locus established the DBC in response to the slow re-building efforts found in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They saw an opportunity for participants to complete small, built projects that would be physical signs of re-birth and inspiration.

The team located itself in the Uptown/Freret neighborhood at a local park. One few areas that was left uncontaminated by flood waters, the park was heavily used by local residents but was lacking in seating and shade. We sought to remedy the problem by providing a sculptural seating system that would bring function, color, playfulness and vegetation to the park. Push|Pull was built in 44 hours and provided vantage points to a baseball field, a playground and a basketball court.
